Life Lessons From...Chickens?
Can you believe that the first quarter of 2017 is complete?
We're happy at my home because the beginning of April means the end of the snow, and some warm days ahead. In the spirit of new beginnings, we decided to embark on another adventure on the home front this Spring.
Yep...we've been talking about it for a few years and finally took the leap. We have four children so we're starting with just 4 chicks. We figure we'll start small and see how it goes. If we have success with these girls, we'll see what the future brings.
Here's a pic of one of our little baby girls (the heat lamp has a red glow.)
As I was doing the research and preparing for our chicks' arrival, it occurred to me that the same process holds true for venturing into the VO world. Often times we think about it for a while, do a little research, and some of us take the first step.
What is a bad idea with chicks and with VO is venturing into either world unprepared and without a clear knowledge of the work required.
Voice-over life lessons from chickens...who would have thought!
Anyway, here's a brief update on what's been happening in February and March in my VO world:
- Completed 2 eLearning projects, about virtual computing and internet wi-fi.
- Continued work on 5 other eLearning projects ranging from re-employment to web design to on-the-job harrassment.
- Continued working with one of my clients, helping him to produce and co-host a new podcast that will be launching soon.
- Uploaded 4 new podcast interviews over on iTunes - Rudy Gaskins, Julie Williams, Kelley Buttrick, and Dustin Ebaugh were all amazing guests!
Don't let the fear of failure stop you from taking that first step.
There have been many times in my life when I was afraid, or wasn't sure how the outcome would turn out. I've never regretted moving forward once I made the decision and prepared myself (as best I could) for the journey.
Whether it was starting a new business, running for political office, deciding to become a professional voice actor...or raising chickens :) the key has always been to get prepared and then get started.
Is there something you've always wanted to do, but fear is holding you back from taking the first step?
Are you thinking about getting into the VO world or have already made the decision and are hitting some roadblocks? If so, I'm happy to help.
